About
Hi, I'm Kristen!
“Good design is a matter of discipline. If you understand the problem, you have the solution.”
Design philosophy. My approach to creative work is purpose-driven and always begins with asking why. Design sits at the intersection of creativity, psychology, and communication. The most effective solutions come from understanding people first.
Empathy guides every design decision I make. At my core, I’m motivated by helping others solve problems clearly and thoughtfully. I’m rarely satisfied with “good enough.” Instead, I iterate until the design truly works for the user or intended audience. When the problem is understood deeply, the solution often becomes simple and powerful.
My roots. Long before I knew design was a profession, I was drawn to the details of how things looked and felt.
I was the kid rearranging my room, organizing spaces, and hoping the teacher would erase every stray marker line from the board so it felt clean again. When Microsoft Word introduced WordArt, I spent hours experimenting with type while perfecting school papers and designing cards for friends and family. Those early instincts — curiosity about environment, order, and aesthetics — eventually led me to design.
My experience. I began my career interning with influential designers Walter Bernard and Milton Glaser at WBMG in New York City. There I learned from the best how to perfect type and developed a strong sense of quality and craft.
Afterward, I worked as a Graphic Designer and Prepress Production Specialist at a commercial printer in Albany, New York, where I developed a strong technical understanding of production and print execution.
I later joined the Strategic Communications and External Relations Division at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. My design work supported the strategic goals of Enrollment Management, Institute Advancement, the Office of the President, and Alumni Relations.
Most recently, I worked out of a studio space in the historic Corrugated Box Building at circle S studio, partnering with organizations in the A/E/C, Financial Services, and Professional Services industries to create thoughtful, impactful design solutions.
I love what I do...designing things that matter. I value a workplace that shares my same passion and promotes design thinking, innovation, purpose and, authenticity. I care about the outcomes, and put all I have towards having positive ones.
